About New Providence
New Providence is a borough on the northwestern edge of Union County, New Jersey, United States. It is located on the Passaic River, which forms the county boundary with Morris County. The borough lies on the western slope of Second Watchung Mountain. Over nine percent of New Providence's land area is permanently protected, publicly owned parkland.
Nestled in the Watchung Mountains, New Providence is home to 12,000 residents within 3.6 square miles in northwestern Union County. Known for its beautiful residential neighborhoods, outstanding school system, and wonderful recreation facilities, New Providence is home to several Fortune 500 companies.
A significant number of residents are associated with research centers in the areas. Many others commute daily to New York City. New Providence's proximity within the state affords its residents easy access to a wide variety of social, cultural and educational activities.
There are several borough-owned parks that bracket Salt Brook, including Veterans Memorial Park on South Street, Lions Park on Livingston Avenue, and Clearwater Park near the end of Central Avenue.
